Grocery Trading Cards

I'm working on a project that may seem silly to others but I believe it's a great idea for my household! See, my siblings and I are disabled in various ways that cause food intolerances and memory issues. Our mom is moving out of the house to a city an hour away so I needed to come up with a system for shopping, since it will fall mostly on me now. I need to keep everyone's food intolerances and eating habits in mind when shopping and make sure I don't buy the wrong brand!

Now for the silly solution I came up with...

Grocery Trading Cards!™

Basically, I designed trading-card-sized info cards with everything I need to know when I go shopping, including what I'd be told to buy ("BBQ Sauce"), the brand name/flavor/type ("Sweet Baby Ray's"), and an image to make it easier to find. I also included boxes for who can/will eat that food item (color coded for each member of my household).

On the back, there's a place to mark when the last time someone checked the ingredients, just in case something changed, along with check boxes for where the item can be bought in town!

I plan on keeping the cards in a card-binder like you'd use for your Pokémon cards or MTG cards. I just need to buy one since my good binders are all in use (mostly for Pokémon cards). I also plan on buying a mini card binder to take with as a shopping list, so I don't have to carry a big binder around with me when I go shopping. I just need to grab the cards of what I need!

I haven't printed them out yet, but I'm using "Card Maker" for designing the cards, and Libre Office's Calc to make a CSV file. The CSV file makes it easier to add a bunch of new cards at once, which is much faster than the software I had been using previously.

When I print them, the fronts and backs will be seperate. In order to make a double-sided card, I'll be buying transparent card sleeves and a couple decks of cheap playing cards. You make a sandwich of front, playing card, back and stick it in the card sleeve. This way it'll be sturdy and I can replace one side without having to reprint both sides.

Anyway, here's one of the cards! there's a black border around them, but obviously because my site is black you won't see that lol.
