Biscuits and Gravy
One of my all time favorite meals!
Ingredients
Biscuits
- 3 cups flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1/4 cup cold water, divided
- 1 stick cold butter, cubed
Gravy
- 1 pound turkey sausage
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1/4 cup flour
- 3 cups milk
Seasoning (measure with your heart)
- onion powder
- garlic powder
- paprika
- italian seasoning
- chili powder
- Worcestershire sauce
Biscuits
- Preheat oven to 425°F
- Line baking sheet with parchment
- In a larg bowl, mix flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder
- Make a well in the center of the mix and add buttmilk, the egg, melted butter and 2 tablespoons of water
- Using a wooden spoon, mix and cut to form dough *Not a bread dough! Do not over-mix*
- add cubes of butter and knead into the dough no more than 7-8 times.
- roll/press dough onto floured mat until it reaches a thickness of 1/2 inch
- cut the biscuits, do not turn the cutter
- bake for 12-15 minutes
Gravy
- cook sausage fully and season with onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, italian seasoning, chill powder and Worcestershire sauce (guesstimate according to taste)
- add butter
- sprinkle with flour and stir
- add milk and stir
- continue stirring over medium heat for 5-10 minutes. the gravy should thicken
- Serve the gravy over the biscuits and enjoy!
