My mom's biscuits and gravy recipe!
Ingredients
Biscuits
- 3 cups flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 Tablespoon sugar
- 1 Tablespoon baking powder
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- 1 egg (beaten)
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1/4 cup cold water, divided
- 1 stick cold butter, cubed
Gravy
- 1 pound sausage
- 3 Tablespoons butter
- 1/4 cup flour
- 3 cups milk
Seasoning
- onion powder
- garlic powder
- paprika
- Italian seasoning
- chili powder
- W sauce
Biscuits
- Preheat oven to 425ºF
- Line baking sheet with parchment
- In large bowl, mix flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder
- Make a well in the center of the mix and add buttermilk, egg, melted butter & 2 tablespoons water
- Using a wooden spoon, mix and cut to form dough *Not a bread dough! Do not over mix*
- add cubes of butter and knead into the dough no more than 7-8 times
- Roll/Press douch onto floured mat until it reaches a thickness of 1/2 an inch
- Cut the biscuits, do not turn cutter
- Put in pan, sprinkle with a pinch of salt
- Bake for 12-15 minutes
Gravy
- Cook sausage fully and season with onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, italian seasoning, chili powder, and W sauce (guesstimate according to taste)
- Add butter
- Sprinkle with flour and stir
- add milk and stir
- continue stirring over medium heat for 5-10 minutes. The gravy should thicken
- Enjoy! Serve the gravy poured over the biscuits!
