My mom's biscuits and gravy recipe!

Ingredients

Biscuits
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 Tablespoon sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon baking powder
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg (beaten)
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/4 cup cold water, divided
  • 1 stick cold butter, cubed
Gravy
  • 1 pound sausage
  • 3 Tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 3 cups milk
Seasoning
  • onion powder
  • garlic powder
  • paprika
  • Italian seasoning
  • chili powder
  • W sauce

Biscuits
  • Preheat oven to 425ºF
  • Line baking sheet with parchment
  • In large bowl, mix flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder
  • Make a well in the center of the mix and add buttermilk, egg, melted butter & 2 tablespoons water
  • Using a wooden spoon, mix and cut to form dough *Not a bread dough! Do not over mix*
  • add cubes of butter and knead into the dough no more than 7-8 times
  • Roll/Press douch onto floured mat until it reaches a thickness of 1/2 an inch
  • Cut the biscuits, do not turn cutter
  • Put in pan, sprinkle with a pinch of salt
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes
Gravy
  • Cook sausage fully and season with onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, italian seasoning, chili powder, and W sauce (guesstimate according to taste)
  • Add butter
  • Sprinkle with flour and stir
  • add milk and stir
  • continue stirring over medium heat for 5-10 minutes. The gravy should thicken
  • Enjoy! Serve the gravy poured over the biscuits!
